I currently use the following webhosts:
- Bluehost.com
- VPS.net
- Caro.net
- HostExcellence.com
Bluehost
is a very solid company with excellent infrastructure and support. Their prices are reasonable and their hosting is reliable. While the support is usually excellent, I do find that I have to wait for a while on chat to get in contact with them.
VPS.net
is what I use for my large virtual servers that house websites with large traffic requirements. I find their prices better than any of the competitors. I also love the support because it is fast and accurate.
HostExcellence.com
is a fairly average shared hosting supplier. I’ve been with them for 8 years and only added on Bluehost and VPS.net when I outgrew their services. Their support is quite good and prices are decent.
Caro.net
is a very high quality, US based hosting company. Their infrastructure and support staff are top notch and their prices are understandably higher than most anyone else.
I’ve also used these web hosting vendors and don’t recommend them:
HostGator – because of downtime. Support was fast but not always accurate.
1and1.com – I don’t know if it is different now, but when I used them they did not have the industry standard cPanel interface so it took me a while to get used to them. They also did not have online chat. Their prices were so-so.
JustHost – I was on a shared server and kept getting hacked. The hacking stopped when I moved to Bluehost and canceled the JustHost account.
Yahoo.com – Reliable platform and support but it was too expensive and inflexible.
